A MAN has been arrested after allegedly stabbing two people and then, covered in blood and brandishing a knife, walked into a Publix store.
Derrick Charles Emery was attending a birthday party Monday night when he got very drunk and left with two others, according to the Polk County Florida Sheriff’s Office.
Emery, 32, was reportedly very drunk when the party’s host suggested he leave, according to News Channel 8’s arrest report.
However, Emery’s fiancée reportedly stayed behind.
The two people Emery stayed with had volunteered to take him home, the arrest report said.
Identified only as victims 1 and 2 in the report, they were then stabbed by Emery on their way home.
Victim 1 knew Emery from high school, while Victim 2 had just met the man.
Emery allegedly pulled out a pocket knife, stabbed both victims, and yelled “F*** you” at them.
The victims returned to the apartment where the party was taking place for help.
Victim 1 suffered stab wounds to her chest and arm, while victim 2 was stabbed in the neck, chest and left forearm, MPs said.
Emery admitted to MPs that he was drunk.
He also told them that he believed he was in danger and that the victims would harm him.
However, according to the sheriff’s office, the victims never threatened Emery.
“At one point he reached into his belt pouch for his phone, but for reasons unknown to him reached into the compartment where his pocket knife was located and before he knew it, he stabbed the two subjects to death,” the arrest report stated.
After the stabbing, Emery reportedly made his way to a Publix store, still with the knife in his hand and with blood all over his shirt.
There he reportedly asked management for help.
Emery was arrested and faces a charge of attempted second-degree murder.
