The derailment set the surrounding area in East Palestine, Ohio ablaze.
Residents within a mile of the fire were asked to leave the home.
The derailed wagons caused an explosion and firefighters are now warning residents in the area that there is a possibility of further explosions while the fire continues.
Fire and hazmat teams raced to the scene to try to put out the raging flames.
The hazmat crews were called to assess the danger of burning materials.
However, freezing temperatures have hampered responders’ efforts as some trucks were unable to pump water due to iced equipment.
The train carried freight from Madison, Illinois to Conway, Pennsylvania.
Those displaced by the fire were housed at a local high school.
Fire departments from three states have joined efforts to put out the blazes.
No dead or injured were reported.
