THE chilling words of a 14-year-old suspected killer have been revealed after her wheelchair-bound sister was violently stabbed in the neck.
Claire Miller, now 16, allegedly told a police officer: “I threatened my sister Michael Myers” after the disabled victim was found dead with a knife in her throat, prosecutors say.
Police found Helen Miller, 19, brutally stabbed to death after responding to a “hysterical” call from Claire at 1am in February 2021.
When Pennsylvania police officers arrived at the house, Claire opened the door and told them, “I stabbed my sister,” police said after the incident.
She then led officers into a bedroom where Helen lay motionless.
Police found Helen, who had cerebral palsy and was speechless, with a large knife sticking out of her throat.
Over a year later, Claire’s fate is being debated at a hearing to determine whether she can face a murder trial in adult court or go to juvenile court, WGAL reported.
Pennsylvania law requires all murder cases to be tried in adult courts, but the defendant’s attorney alleges that Claire was in a state of psychosis during the incident and is seeking her rehabilitation in juvenile court.
Robert Beyer, Claire’s attorney, brought psychiatrists to court who claimed the alleged killer was having auditory hallucinations at the time of Helen’s death.
However, a Manheim Township police officer testified that Claire showed no signs of stress while he guarded her in juvenile detention.
According to the criminal complaint against Claire, the person who called 911 “said that she ‘killed her sister’ and was ‘hysterical’ on the phone.”
Upon arriving at the home on the night of the murder, an officer was “waved down by a woman, later identified as the defendant, Claire Elaina Miller, who was standing outside the residence.”
The officer said Claire “repeatedly said I stabbed my sister,” with the officer observing “what appeared to be blood on the snow near the residence’s driveway.”
The complaint read, “Miller appeared to be trying to wash her hands in the snow,” and she “also had what appeared to be blood on her pants.”
The police officer who was guarding Claire testified that she told him she loved horror movies after hearing a notification on his cellphone playing the theme song from the slasher movie Halloween.
“I trusted Michael Myers to my sister,” she said, according to Police Officer John Martin.
Martin also said Claire was over the moon after officers brought her fast food to juvenile detention.
“Oooh, McDonald’s,” Martin said, reportedly quoting Claire.
“I would have killed someone sooner if I had known I was getting McDonald’s.”
Psychiatrists have given Claire a variety of diagnoses, saying she probably stabbed something in a hallucination when Helen was killed.
The coroner’s office told the court that Helen was stabbed twice in the chest, twice in the jaw and three times in the neck.
Claire apologized from the courtroom while the autopsy report was read, WGAL reported.
Psychiatrists said Claire heard voices on the night of Helen’s murder and the hallucinations caused her to sting a “female voice” which she said mocked her.
Prosecutors and defense argued over whether Claire could be rehabilitated if she was tried in juvenile court.
The judge is scheduled to decide on July 18 how she will be tried.
Until then, she will be held at the county youth intervention center.
