The two were staying in an RV in the small town of Gibson when Kellan decided to leave her apartment on Saturday night. They are both non-tribal members of the community.

When he didn’t return for several minutes, his mother decided to look for him and made a horrifying discovery, Fort Hall police said, per Sho-Ban News.

She found two Rottweilers and two mixed breeds owned by their neighbors mauling the small child lying face down on the porch of the house.

The brave mother threw herself at her son and protected him from the crazed pack, who instead started viciously attacking her.

Fort Hall Police received reports around 5:30 p.m. of an unconscious child with unknown injuries.

When they arrived, the pair received medical attention from an ambulance that took them both to Portneuf Medical Center.

At the hospital, Kellan was tragically pronounced dead of his injuries.

Samantha Lenay, who organized a GoFundMe to raise funds for the mom, wrote in a heartbreaking statement that Emily was “fighting for her life.”

“I know Emily and I know that she did everything in her power to protect Kellan from this attack.

“She is an amazing wife and mother and sacrificed herself to try and save her little boy.”

Lenay confirmed that Emily has a daughter who “thankfully wasn’t around when the attack happened.”

Neighbors Benjamin Dominick Wolfchild and Juliana Wolfchild owned the four dogs but were not at home when the attack took place.

The animals were shot by the Fort Hall Police and the Fort Hall Game Warden.

The two were struck by 15 animal ordinance violations by the Shoshone-Bannock tribes, including rabies vaccination, animal attacks and crossing the line of any dog or cat.

The Fort Hall authorities, the FBI, the FHPD and Tribal Fish and Game are investigating this case.

The couple could face federal charges based on the US Attorney’s decision.

“This is a tragic situation for the family and my heart goes out to them,” Bannock County Coroner Torey Danner said, according to the Idaho State Journal.
