The bodies of two members of the same family were found miles apart as horrifying details from the disturbing tragedy came to light.

Jason Wray is believed to have killed his wife Jessica before taking his own life in a brutal murder-suicide on Sunday that ended with him walking in front of a trailer truck on the freeway.

Officers arrived at the scene and were responding to reports of a dead body at the couple’s home.

A woman who had been “violently physically assaulted” was spotted by police trying to locate her husband.

Additional calls were received to 911 reporting that a man was hit by a vehicle but not seriously injured.

The man reportedly got back into his car after being hit and drove to Interstate 90, where he “again got out of his vehicle on foot, this time stepping in front of a semi-truck,” Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes said.

The Dane County Medical Examiner’s office in Madison, Wisconsin publicly identified the couple on Wednesday.

Jessica died from blunt force trauma and multiple stab wounds, while Jason died from his injuries after being hit by the semi-truck.

The couple both worked as medical assistants at the University of Wisconsin Health.

“We are devastated by the news of this unspeakable tragedy and our hearts go out to the family and friends who are suffering this terrible loss,” UW Health spokeswoman Emily Kumlien said in a statement.

“The well-being of our staff and providers is our top priority and we will continue to support them emotionally as they grieve. We urge the community to respect the privacy of all mourners and show support through the fund set up for the family if you are able to.”

Crime has left the couple’s three children behind, and now the community is doing what it can to support them in the wake of the loss of their parents.

“It’s a very close-knit neighborhood. It’s a neighborhood where the kids play outside a lot and run around together,” Luke Hoffman, a family friend and neighbor, told News 3 Now.

“The families take care of each other.”

Hoffman added that the situation is “incredibly difficult” for the family and the community is looking at ways to help in any way they can.

A GoFundMe page was created by neighbors in the area to raise money for the couple’s funeral expenses and to support their children.

As of this writing, the fundraiser has raised over $116,000 from a $10,000 goal.

“These children are surrounded by so much love, but growing up after the loss of both parents will take much longer,” the fundraiser’s description reads.

“Please help wherever you can. Every little helps.”
