Horrific details emerge after mother was shot in the face by a stranger who kidnapped her daughter from her doorstep

Shocking details have emerged in the case of a mother who was shot in the face by a stranger before allegedly trying to steal her daughter.

According to reports, 34-year-old Erin Mauldin tried to break into the woman’s home in Palmdale, California on August 7 when she tried to open her front door.

Deputy Jose Lainez of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department told reporters that Mauldin claimed someone was following him.

Cops said Mauldin tried to hit her with a hammer before making his way, Fox11 reported.

The woman ran into her home and tried to protect herself by grabbing her gun.

Lainez revealed the suspect had subdued her.

Mauldin shot the woman in the face before allegedly kidnapping her daughter, who police believe is around 10 years old.

A woman known only as Destiny told ABC7: “As soon as he shot her, he pulled her out [of] the house and so she came downstairs.”

Destiny revealed the mother turned her head before she was shot.

She said, “Once she got down, she was able to outrun him.”

Police officers rushed to the scene and revealed they had found Mauldin, who was reportedly holding the child at gunpoint.

The officers ordered Mauldin to drop the gun and persuaded him to release the girl.

The mother, whose clothes were soaked in blood, was treated at the scene by paramedics.

Footage shows the woman holding a towel over her face before being taken to the hospital.

Police say she is in stable condition.

Her friend, who wished to remain anonymous, told CBS News that the woman required surgery.

Police have said that Mauldin was a stranger to the woman and girl.

He was arrested on charges of attempted murder, kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon and is in prison on $1 million bail.

His indictment is scheduled to take place today, August 9th.
