Home rocked by ‘blast’, gray smoke billows from room as firefighters flood residential street

A HOUSE caught fire after a massive explosion, with gray smoke billowing from a room.
The residential street property filled with smoke as all windows were blown out and glass shattered across the street.
A witness to the fire tonight at Wythenshawe, Manchesterhe said Manchester evening news: “I was coming home from work and when the tram pulled up to the stop, there was a huge bang
“When I got out and looked at the house, there was immediately a lot of smoke. All the windows were blown out and the glass was all over the street.
“I ran over and a neighbor called the name of the man who lives there to try to get an idea if he was conscious and at home.
“Me and another gentleman tried to kick in the door but couldn’t find enough strength to kick it in.”
Another neighbor four houses down said he heard a “massive bang”.
firefighters seem to be turning their attention to a property down the street. Photos show a huge hole in the upper floor of the house in question.
Up to 30 firefighters reportedly attended, as well as up to 12 police cars.
Motorists were urged to avoid the area being evacuated.
It is understood some people will be allowed back into the country within hours, while others will be given overnight accommodation.
