IO Interactive bring Hitman 3 on Steam last weeka year after the PC version coming on Epic Games Store as an exclusive from time to time, for an unwelcome reception. Hitman fans were displeased with the game’s launch price on Steam – $59.99, which is the same price it offered on Epic’s store last year – and flooded Valve’s store page for Hitman 3 with negative user reviews protest. While many fans raved about the game itself, they criticized developer IO Interactive for the game’s pricing and general business practices.
In short, many fans want a discount on holding a Steam release, or at least a discount on Killer and Hitman 2 owners. On steam, Hitman 3 currently has an overall “Mixed” user rating, based on 922 reviews.
Currently, IO is trying to make it easier for the missing players, giving them a free upgrade for Hitman 3 On steam.
“Ours Hitman 3 Steam launch didn’t go as planned,” IO Interactive said in an update posted to its player support website. “We are delighted to bring Hitman 3 to Steam with new content, and we know that the level of anticipation and excitement among our Steam players is high, especially since the game has been an Epic exclusive for a year.
“Ultimately, we didn’t live up to our own expectations for the launch experience, and we didn’t like our Steam community was starting Hitman 3 journey this way. ”
Customers who bought Hitman 3 on Steam (through February 19), get one of two free upgrades:
- Hitman 3 Standard Edition owners will be upgraded to Hitman 3 Deluxe version. The Standard Edition, priced at $59.99, includes the base version of the game. Deluxe Edition, priced at $89.99, adds six Luxury Escalation Contracts, suits and other items, digital, digital soundtrack World of Hitman book, and director’s commentary.
- Current owner of Hitman 3 Deluxe version or Hitman trio (a $99.99 pack, another notable one) will be upgraded to receive Seven Deadly Sins Collection. The Seven Deadly Sins Collection add the 7-part sine-themed extension, which will cost $34.93 separately (it’s currently discounted to $29.68).
Whether that will quell angry Hitman fans remains to be seen. But the game itself is good – Hitman 3 Ranked in Polygon’s Top 10 Games of 2021 – and with a new part of content getting started, hopefully fans will now be able to focus on that as their goal, rather than IO Interactive’s pricing plans.
