The Scottsdale Fire Department received reports around 1:25 p.m. of six hikers who may have suffered from heat exhaustion at a trailhead just north of Cave Creed.

The hikers were about four miles into a hike when they ran out of water and got lost, said Dave Folio, captain of the Scottsdale Fire Department.

Crews responded and discovered a man, later identified as Dishion, in critical condition.

He was taken to the hospital where he unfortunately died of exhaustion and heat stroke, the fire department said.

The other five hikers did not require hospitalization and were expected to be fine.

dr Evan Dishion was in his second year of residency at Barrow Neurological Institute at the time of his death.

“Since Chloe came here, he hasn’t had as much time with his friends between stays,” his wife Amy told ABC15.

“I feel like normally I would have pushed back a little harder because of the heat.”

Now the heartbroken widow is warning others to beware of dangerous conditions before it’s too late.

“It’s not worth it,” Amy said.

“He didn’t want to leave me and Chloe. I don’t want other people to leave behind people they love just to go for a hike.”

The Barrow Neurological Institute released a statement following Dishion’s tragic death, saying he was “a clever and gifted doctor”.

“He was a kind and generous person who made it his mission and passion to improve the lives of others.
