“Highly decomposed” body found in a blanket under rubble in a “hoarder’s room” by workers cleaning up the house

A badly decomposed body was found wrapped in a blanket in a hoarder’s room, police said.
The decomposing body was discovered Tuesday by a contractor in an unoccupied home in Staten Island, New York.

Police officers described the location where the body was found as “Hoarder’s Room”.
It was discovered under a pile of rubble in the house, a police source told SI Advance.
The New York City Police Department said, “Upon arrival, officers observed an unconscious and unresponsive person inside the location.”
The sex of the body has not been identified as the investigation continues.

It is not known how the person died or how long the body was on the property.
George Almodovar, who owns the house, believes the body could be that of a squatter.
He said he didn’t know how they got into the two-story property.
The homeowner told the New York Daily News that it is vacant and currently undergoing renovations.
He said: “He obviously must have taken the board down to get in. He wasn’t allowed there.”
Almodovar, who now lives in Florida, revealed that he and his ex-wife are trying to sell the house empty.
The shocking find comes just weeks after authorities in Irvine, California discovered the badly decomposing bodies of three family members in a $2 million mansion.
Karina Poirier, 55, and Serge Poirier, 63, were found at the property on April 6 with an adult male.
Police officers were conducting a social check when they made the discovery after relatives told Canadian authorities they hadn’t heard from the family in more than a year, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Coroners use the adult male’s DNA to positively identify him.
According to the police, the bodies could have been unreported in the apartment for up to 18 months.
Police said at the time that the bodies were so decomposed that trying to confirm their identities “proved difficult”.
Officers said a gun was found in the home and there were no signs of forced entry.
And in January, police officers discovered Brent Shapiro’s badly decomposing body among piles of trash at his Brooklyn home.
The 84-year-old died of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, coroners told The Daily News.

Police told the outlet at the time that Shapiro had been dead for about two months when they found his body.
They discovered the body after his sons requested that a health check be performed.
