PEMBROKE PINES (CBSMiami) – A South Florida high school teacher and sports coach faced a judge Monday morning to face sex charges involving an underage student.
Philip Velez, 28, a teacher at Charles W. Flanagan High School in Pembroke Pines, is accused of having an affair with a 17-year-old student.

He was charged with three counts of sex with a minor and one count of soliciting/performing a sexual act by an authority figure.

The bond is set at $25,000 for the first three counts and $10,000 for the fourth.
Velez teaches cooking classes at the school and is also an assistant basketball coach.

The judge ruled that he could not return to school and could not have any contact, directly or indirectly, with the student or any minor that is not related to him.
