Heroic father-of-three Luke Laidley, 43, who survived 9/11, dies trying to rescue children from a capsized raft

A father-of-three who survived 9/11 drowned after jumping into a lake to rescue a group of young children on Tuesday.

Luke Laidley, 43, was piloting a boat in Illinois when the raft filled with children overturned and the children fell into the lake.

According to an ABC affiliate, the accident happened around 1:30 p.m. on July 4 WLS TV ABC.

Laidley was reportedly pulling a raft behind the boat when it overturned and the children fell into the water.
