The Bakersfield, California man was fatally shot near a road on November 17, 2021.

Police officers arrived and spotted him in the street in front of a woman later identified as Alvarado-Romero – Laureano’s estranged friend.

The 30-year-old was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, local broadcaster KGET reported.

Alvarado-Romero was arrested after the shooting but was initially released.

Later in October, she faced charges related to his death after a weeks-long investigation, court documents show.

On the day of the incident, she initially said someone shot the dead man.

She said he was leaving her home to get the mail when she heard a loud bang and discovered his body.

When asked by police if anyone wanted to kill him or not, she said she couldn’t name anyone but told them he went to clubs with “women and drugs.”

The two shared one child and once lived together, but she said there had been issues with abuse and he hadn’t been there in the past two months.

She later admitted to authorities that she shot her lover, saying it was the result of a domestic violence incident.

However, police could not find any evidence to support her story.

Officials noted in the report that she had no visible injuries and had not sought a restraining order or stay away from Laureano.

Police also looked at surveillance footage and could not see any vehicles entering or exiting the area at the time of the shooting, court records show.

The couple’s neighbors told authorities they heard no screams or any sign that there had been a fight before Laureano was also shot.

Investigators confronted the woman about her findings, saying there was no evidence to support her claims.

She then said that she killed him when he arrived at her home to see his child.

Alvarado-Romero claimed she was in her vehicle outside the home when he began choking her and pointing a gun to her head.

She snatched the gun, which authorities later discovered she had bought illegally, and shot him, hitting her estranged lover in the left lung.

“She said when a person feels threatened they don’t know how to act and have to fight back,” one investigator wrote in the report.

The alleged killer later admitted to having bought the gun and said she threw it after the shooting.
