THREE people have died and another injured after a horrific car crash earlier this morning.
The heartbreaking accident happened before 4 a.m. on a North Carolina freeway, as the condition of the surviving victim remains unknown.
The wreck occurred in Charlotte on I-485 between exits 32 and 33, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
Officials said the freeway would be closed until about 1 p.m. when first responders analyzed the horror scene.
Rescue workers confirmed three died at the scene, while one other person was taken to hospital, the Charlotte Observer said.
The names of the victims were not released.
The extent of the hospital victim’s injuries is unknown.
It’s unclear how many cars were involved in the crash, but Channel 9 reported seeing several wrecked vehicles.
This comes just days after a mother and her seven-week-old baby were among the victims of a horrific accident in a nearby county.
The 23-year-old woman, her baby and a 43-year-old man die tragically after a pickup truck collided with an SUV.
The fatal crash, which unleashed a massive fireball, occurred around 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, police said.
The Graham Police Department said officers rushed to the scene after a call on Moore Street.
When they arrived, they found that a Ford pickup and a Chevrolet SUV were involved in the accident.
Cops said it was “apparent that one of the vehicles to the left of center crossed into the path of the other.”
The 23-year-old mother and her baby, who were in the SUV, both died at the scene.
The driver of the truck was taken to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
Tony Velez told McClatchy News the two vehicles were traveling in opposite directions.
An investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call the police at 336-570-6711 or Crime Stoppers at 336-229-7100.
