Sir Alex Ferguson is known as one of the greatest managers in English football history. During his 27 years in charge of Manchester United, he led the team to many trophies, including 13 Premier League titles.
The former Aberdeen coach has also had the opportunity to work with a range of world-class players, including but not limited to Cristiano Ronaldo, Eric Cantona and Wayne Rooney, while at Old Trafford.
The likes of Eric Cantona, Roy Keane and Steve Bruce became Manchester United captains while Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge. However, it is Bryan Robson who has most impressed the Scots in the role of captain of the Reds.
Sir Alex Ferguson has named Bryan Robson the best captain he has had during his 27 years in charge of Manchester United. He say:
“He is easily the best captain I have. I think during his time at United he was the best player. The players love him. They responded to him and he is nonetheless the longest serving captain of my time. It’s hard for a captain because sometimes he has to tell the truth to the players, you know? The words of encouragement he gave them can sometimes be quite volatile and he was, but the players fell in love with him.” Ferguson said in the Q&A commercial for ‘Robbo’, a movie about the former midfielder.
Sir Alex Ferguson also praised Bryan Robson’s ability to make decisions on the pitch without consulting the head coach. He say:
“They appreciate the time he takes on them and another thing, he is the only captain I know who can make decisions on the pitch. He doesn’t need to look at me. He’s going to do it and it’s unusual. In fact, it was very unusual because he had the ball to do it. ”
Bryan Robson held the armband for 12 years at Manchester United, eight of which were under the management of Sir Alex Ferguson.
