Harry Maguire suffers a new blow with the Man Utd defender to miss games with a hamstring problem after playing for England injured

HARRY MAGUIRE is expected to be sidelined for around two weeks to deal another blow to the struggling defender.

The 29-year-old Manchester United captain suffered a hamstring injury during England’s 3-3 draw with Germany.

He continued to play despite the problem to watch the full 90 minutes at Wembley on Monday but was later seen limping away from the stadium.

And the extent of the damage to his leg means Maguire will be unavailable for selection for a short time.

United meet rivals Manchester City at the Etihad on Sunday and then a double-header with Omonia in the Europa League occupies a trip to Everton on October 9.

Maguire has been left out of the recent starting XIs for the Red Devils anyway, with Erik ten Hag favoring ‘leader’ Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez as his partnership in the centre.

But he would probably have played against Cypriots Omonia as Maguire would have been desperate for match practice ahead of the World Cup.

The England defender had a tough evening last night.

He was whistled at by some of the home fans before kick-off and was then responsible for both goals as Germany took a 2-0 lead.

And to top it off, he had the muscle problem late.

Captain Harry Kane referenced the injury while supporting his teammate.

Kane said: “Individual fault, you will be disemboweled.

“But we are a team, we stand behind each other. They learn from it, they keep going, they’ve been great for us every time they’ve put on an England shirt.

“H ended up with a pretty decent injury there and he played another five or 10 minutes on almost one leg, great character of his, really proud of him for that.”

Maguire, spotted limping after the 3-3 Nations League draw, took to social media to apologize for his “mistakes”.

Despite his flawed performance, Maguire still has the support of Gary Neville – but has been encouraged to seek outside professional help from a psychologist.

Neville said: “When I was losing my confidence I went to a psychologist to help me in those moments.

“I went to my doctor at Manchester United. I went to a psychologist and got help. Sometimes you need outside help.

“Harry is going through a difficult moment. I felt for him.

“But he’s a good, solid character, he has a good family and people around him at Manchester United who will try to help him.

“It’s a tough time for Harry, there’s no getting around it. But there’s nothing you can do but show up, do your best, and don’t give up.

“Eventually his form will return because he was an excellent player for United and England at times.

“He has to go to the World Cup. First off, England doesn’t have a large pool of centre-backs. Harry did very well for England and Gareth Southgate.”
