Harry Kane breaks 94-year-old record to score 16 goals for England in calendar year against San Marino

HARRY KANE broke a 94-year-old record to score 16 goals for England in a calendar year when he scored FOUR against San Marino.
The Tottenham forward was previously level 12, alongside George Hilsdon in 1908 and Dixie Dean in 1927.
But after another hat-trick before halftime, did the same thing against AlbaniaKane turned 16 and in doing so broke records.
The striker became the first man to score four goals in an England game since Ian Wright in 1993, a 7-1 win over San Marino.
He has also brought his international tally to 48, leveling with Gary Lineker, with Wayne Rooney’s record of 53 coming under increasing threat.
Lineker tweeted: “Hi @HKane, welcome to the 48-goal club.
“I doubt your membership will expire within minutes, but it’s nice to have you around.
Kane scored a perfect hat-trick on Friday against Albania, a much-needed boost when form has been tough with Spurs.
But somehow he got one goal ahead of San Marino as he had four before the break, despite two penalties.
Kane became the fourth England player to score a hat-trick in consecutive appearances, after Vivian Woodward in 1909, Dean in 1927 and Tommy Taylor in 1957.
Before the match, Gareth Southgate made a promise his faction will not hold back, and he was as good as his word.
“Without a doubt, we should never take a degree for granted,” he said.
“You are quite right. Italy has not been confirmed, the Netherlands can still play.
“There weren’t many flaws – but we handled the games in Warsaw and Budapest very well, which are probably important games in terms of qualification.
“We reacted well to every hurdle that came our way, during a calendar year where we had a stark contrast in the quality of the opponents we played against.
“The mentality is very good. That’s why in 90 minutes and extra time we weren’t beaten – and that’s a record we want to keep building.
“We have the best defensive record in Europe, in terms of goals scored in games.
“We are fifth in terms of goals scored and chances created. It’s a good challenge to try and improve on it. ”
