However, life intervened when he suffered a life-threatening head injury at Hull City in January 2017.

Ryan faced a long road to recovery after being rescued by top medics, with Rachel by his side every step of the way.

The England international was forced to retire after his injury, with Rachel writing at the time: “Life doesn’t always go according to plan but you have to find the positive in a negative situation.”

A ray of light came out of a dark situation for the couple as they meanwhile welcomed a little boy and then a little girl.

After tying the knot with Rachel, Ryan wrote on Instagram: “21.06.2022 Finally I can call you my wife @rachelspeters ❤️”

While Rachel added: “We made it @ryan8mason and it was more amazing than I could have ever dreamed of. I loved every second of it.”

On their special day, the couple shared many pictures of themselves.

One shows the well-dressed couple locking lips at the ceremony, while another sees Ryan gazing fondly at Rachel as she prepares to cut the cake.

Many of Mason’s footballer friends congratulated the popular ace on Instagram.

Andros Townsend commented, “Oh what a night.”

While Callum Wilson added, “Congratulations mate.”

Joe Hart, Michel Vorm, Tom Carroll, Curtis Davies and Charlie Adam were also among the former Prem stars who wished Mason well.

Since his time as Spurs interim boss, Mason has remained at the club in a variety of capacities.

Following the arrival of Nuno Espirito Santo as boss, Mason returned to his previous role within the academy.

But Espirito Santo’s successor, Antonio Conte, immediately added luster to Spurs’ former interim and promoted him to a permanent role as first-team manager.
