Harrowing videos show rows of coffins in hospital and body bag lines amid China’s Covid mega-tsunami that is killing 5,000 a day

Harrowing images from China show long lines of coffins and body bags being brought into a crematorium as the Covid ‘mega-tsunami’ takes hold.

The government has since stopped releasing official daily figures on infections and deaths, but it is estimated that at least 5,000 people are dying and 4.2 million new cases every day.

China is now in the grip of a Covid surge after its leader Xi Jinping finally abandoned his disastrous zero-Covid policy of draconian lockdowns.

The country is preparing to spread the virus in a population with low immunity levels as it went into lockdown over its botched attempt to make its own vaccine.

Crematoria are already reportedly working around the clock to cope with the mounting death toll, while huge lines of hearses line the streets.

Footage said to have come from a crematorium in the city of Tianjin shows a long line of red coffins, a color common to them in the country.

Other harrowing footage shows a long line of corpses being brought into a crematorium by workers in hazmat suits.

According to epidemiologist Eric Feigl-Ding, many Chinese hospitals, even the “top-notch” ones in the capital Beijing, are “running out of oxygen.”

dr Feigl-Ding is the head of the Covid Task Force at the New England Complex Systems Institute and one of the first scientists to warn about the spread of Covid when he was working at Harvard.

He said China was being hit by a “mega-tsunami” of Covid but warned the worst “is yet to come”.

Other footage from one of China’s Covid-ravaged hospitals shows wheelchair-bound patients yards from bodies.

Daily cases could reach 3.7 million a day in January and 4.2 million in March, up from the current level of 1 million, according to health data analyst Airfinity.

They estimate that there are already 5,000 deaths a day in China, as opposed to the 7 officially admitted by the government.

Airfinity has also predicted that China could ultimately see 2.1 million Covid deaths.

The virus is now spreading largely unchecked across the country, raising doubts about China’s statistics showing no new Covid deaths were reported in the six days to Sunday.

Beijing-based doctor Howard Bernstein said he went from never treating Covid patient to dozens a day.

Patients are coming to his hospital in increasing numbers, almost all are elderly and many are very ill, he said.

“The hospital is just overwhelmed from top to bottom,” Bernstein told Reuters at the end of a “stressful” shift at the private Beijing United Family Hospital in the east of the capital.

He said the hospital’s intensive care unit was “full,” as were other wards.

“Many of them were hospitalized,” he said.

“They don’t get better in a day or two, so there’s no flow, and that’s why people keep coming into the ER, but they can’t go upstairs to the hospital rooms. You’re stuck in the emergency room for days.

“The biggest challenge, honestly, is that I think we just weren’t prepared for that.”

The draconian zero-Covid policy saw the population being forced to undergo constant testing for the coronavirus, and millions were placed in lockdown even if only a small number of people tested positive.

Horror images showed those infected being taken to quarantine camps and even welded into their homes by brutal “Big White” enforcers.

But a wave of protests following a fire in which the deaths of 10 people were blamed on the tough lockdown saw Xi drop “zero Covid” dramatically.
