Halo is getting a second season on Paramount Plus

The first season of Master Chief on TV won’t be his last. The Halo series on Paramount Plus there will be a second season, even though its first one won’t air for another month, Paramount announced on Tuesday.

A second season of the show may be warranted but not everything is up for grabs. As previously announced, showrunner Kyle Kane will be leaving the series at the end of season 1. During the TCA panel, Paramount announced that David Wiener (Come home, Killing) will take over as the host of season 2.

Halo getting a second season almost six weeks before the first came out doesn’t come as much of a surprise. Early renewals are becoming a bigger trend for pricey series of this type, with Amazon renewing both Lord of the Rings and Wheel of Time for the second season before their first season started.

This may be in part due to the scale of production required for shows of this scale. Producers had to set the scene, create props, find locations, and develop VFX tools needed to create their worldnot to mention hiring actors under contracts that usually last more than a year.

Halo will premiere on Paramount Plus starting March 24.
