And in a video update, the Icelander showed off a huge purple bruise that he says is only getting bigger.

But the 34-year-old, who is back in powerlifting after a two-year break from boxing, is “optimistic” he will make a full recovery.

The Mountain is jetting to the United States for specialist surgery in Los Angeles next Wednesday.

He had live streamed his accident before emerging with a sling around his left arm.

But in his latest clip, Bjornsson said: “I’m positive, I’m optimistic. I can move my arm, there’s not really a lot of discomfort now.”

However, he added: “The swelling is getting worse. It’s getting worse and worse every day.”

He then filmed his trip to see a doctor in Iceland, who told him he had a “huge tear” in the muscle and tendon area.

The doctor said that means “it won’t be easy until after the surgery to say how easy it will be to fully fix it.”

Björnsson turned to the camera as he replied: “Obviously I want to have the surgery done as soon as possible because the sooner I do it the sooner I can recover.”

The doctor added: “I’m almost certain it’s possible to fix this – most of it, but I’m not entirely sure. We need to look at the operation.

“It usually heals very well. It heals with some amount of scar tissue, so you need good physical therapy – six to 12 weeks to heal.”

Björnsson kept his calm, good humor the whole time.

And he issued a lively message for fans.

He said: “The surgeon had told me on a phone call that he was very optimistic that I would make a full recovery.

“I want to recover as much as possible and get back to my best.”
