CHICAGO – A mother who lost her child to gun violence in 2020 is continuing her mission to bring joy to children in Chicago.
Last year, Jalisa Ford hosted One Jar . Organization Holiday Toy Drive and she’s ready to do it again.
“For me it was so much joy and excitement, for my heart it was amazing to see the smiles on the faces of the kids and do a good deed for my community,” said Ford.
The touching holiday gifting comes just months after she suffered an indescribable loss.
Her son, 9-year-old Janari Ricks, an honor student who loved sports and Christmas, was shot dead while playing outside the block in Cabrini-Green.
“It is a tragic moment that he is no longer here with us, yet he is still here in spirit. I know the holiday season is a tragic moment and a joyful time to be with family and friends, so this holiday is very important to me because it is special to him and special to him. me,” said Ford.
Ford says she’s leaning on faith, positivity and purpose. Honor Janari’s memory by spreading support to the kids in the neighborhood with the joy of a new toy.
“With the toy drive and the One Jar Foundation, it is a blessing to give back to the Near North Side community,” said Ford.
She’s donating now and the new toys will be distributed to children on December 18 at Holy Family Church.
