GTA Online is expanding on Franklin’s story, set years after GTA 5

Rockstar announced that GTA Online will receive a story-focused expansion, ‘The Contract’, which features GTA V’s Franklin, and is set years after the events of the game’s single-player campaign. Scheduled for release on December 15, the story will focus on Franklin working in his new “celebrity solutions agency”, and will feature Dr. Dre, who has composed new music for game.

Announced on Rockstar Newswire, the expansion (like all GTA Online updates, will be free) introduces F. Clinton and Partners, an agency that provides ‘solutions’ to gender problems Uptown Los Santos. Your GTA Online character will meet Franklin through Lamar Davis, and will be tasked with taking the business to the next level.

As part of that story, GTA 5 radio host (and GTA Online co-writer) DJ Pooh will be reaching out to Franklin to mention a potential client – Dr. Dre. Dre lost his phone full of unreleased new music. You’ll be tasked with securing tracks and returning them to legendary artists – and you can do this alone or with a group.

Rockstar teases that you’ll be working with Franklin himself, Chop the Dog, and a hacker named Imani to travel from Franklin’s old neighborhood, to parties in Los Santos, to the FIB offices to get on track. As you can see from the trailer above, it looks like we’ll be meeting other famous artists as well, as Anderson .Paak makes an appearance – and a guest appearance from Snoop Dogg on the soundtrack is likely. Suggest another guest.

As you might expect, those tracks will become part of the game, and Rockstar will introduce even more of the music in the update. Today’s announcement promises “an eclectic new radio station from some very special guest hosts, the first huge updates of its kind to existing radio stations, including tons of new and unreleased exclusive songs from Dr. Dre and a hugely successful lineup of artists”.

The update will also bring new weapons, vehicles, successful contracts, and more. Rockstar said we’ll learn more about the music, and the expansion in general, “in the coming days.”

Looks like this update is intended as an answer to many, many years required for DLC story in GTA 5. However, it is still unclear how the expansion will be implemented in GTA Online.

This of course confirms that Dr. Dre is working on new music for GTA Online, not GTA 6 as some hoped. Besides know it’s under development, we’ve heard very little about GTA 6 – although some people think Rockstar sneaked a screenshot of it into San Andreas’ GTA Trilogy remaster.
