Goodland Drive restoration project completed ahead of schedule, under budget

Collier County has completed a project to renovate Goodland Drive and protect it from future flooding and severing of the Goodland community.

When Connie Fulmer and her husband moved to Goodland, they just wanted a nice house on the water. “Because we both have boats and so we love being here,” says Fulmer.

They did not expect that every time it rained heavily, they would have to deal with the overflowing water on the only road in and out of their neighborhood.

“Over the years we have seen people fishing in the water crossing the street. We saw people rowing on their pontoon boards. Fuller said.

Greg Bello, president of the Goodland Civics Association, said, “If the asphalt had collapsed, we would have been in danger of not being able to get ambulances into Goodland. This could put our residents in an extremely dangerous situation.”

Collier County leaders say that’s a thing of the past now. They cut the ribbon to celebrate the completion of a much-needed restoration project for Goodland Drive.

Collier County Deputy Growth Manager, Trinity Scott, said, “Now the elevated roadway and crosswalk are placed under the roadway. Water that used to pass through the roadway will flow down to the roadway, making it safer for all people entering and leaving Goodland. “

Those who live in Goodland aren’t the only winners, neither are Collier County taxpayers. The project achieved $300,000 within budget and ahead of schedule.

Collier County Commissioner Rick Locastro said, “It’s like what you would expect if you were painting a house or something, that’s the kind of goal we should ask for from our contractors when we spend our closing money. tax.”

“The roads are done, and we are grateful for that,” says Fulmer.

Fulmer isn’t the only one excited to see the road completed. Of the 340 people living in Goodland, WINK News estimates more than 100 of them attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
