Golf history as Linn Grant becomes the first woman to win a nine-shot mixed European Tour event in Scandinavia

LINN GRANT made a piece of golf history, dealing a massive blow to girl power with a stunning NINE-Shot win in the Scandinavian Mixed Tournament.

Grant became the first female golfer to win a Battle of the Sex event and the Swede turned it into a merry procession in front of her home fans with a brilliant final round of 64.

Grant, 22, took a two-shot lead – the only woman in the top 15 – and birdied away from the crowd on five of the first six holes.

She caught three more birdies on the back nine and finished on 24 under par, earning a memorable win in a 78-men, 78-women tournament.

Grant was also an amazing 14 shots ahead of second best golfer, England’s Gabriella Cowley.

Cowley shot a three under par 69 for 15th place.

European Ryder Cup captain Henrik Stenson’s birdie-birdie finish earned him a tie in second place with Scotsman Mark Warren.

But the 2016 Open champion was completely overshadowed by his fellow Swede.

Grant beamed: “It’s such a big win, especially playing in front of my family and friends.

“It’s crazy to make golf history and to win against so many. I was so excited to do it for the women!

“Hopefully this will show people that we can compete with the men on an equal footing and help bring more fans and more sponsorship to women’s football.”

Grant has been a pro for less than a year.

She finished in the top 20 here as an amateur 12 months ago but is already a proven winner – this was her third win in just six starts.
