DUSTIN JOHNSON ‘really regrets’ his move to LIV Golf.
The 38-year-old became the inaugural champion of the Saudi Arabia-backed tour after a sixteenth-place finish at this month’s LIV Golf Bangkok Invitational.
That’s how Johnson, combined with his winnings from six events so far this season, has already made a cool $30 million in just five months.
In conversation with the mediaCommenting on his decision to leave the PGA Tour, Johnson joked, “I really regret my decision to come here. It was just awful.
“I sat there last night thinking about it and it really upset me a lot.”
Johnson concluded by saying he “just can’t get over it”.
Many loved Johnson’s dry sarcasm, with one commenting: “30 million already with 2 events outstanding… yeah I bet he’s really sorry!
“A business decision that turned out to be great. On the PGA Tour since 2008 and won 75 million. Could do half of that in a year with LIV. I don’t blame him!”
But many were quick to criticize both Johnson and the Tour as a whole, including one person who said: “Dustin Johnson is a sarcastic, arrogant exponent of professional golf. In my opinion, the PGA Tour is better without him and his LIV buddies!”
Another said: “He can joke about it all he wants but as long as it is understood that he is no longer considered one of the best golfers, that’s fine.
“Good for him, make the money! But when it comes to the best players there is only 1 tour to play on.”
With two tour events still to go, first in Jeddah on October 14-16, followed by Miami on October 28-30, Johnson’s Halloween bankroll could be looking a whole lot healthier.
