GMA’s Sam Champion apologizes to fans after bizarre behavior on return to morning show

GOOD Morning America’s Sam Champion apparently couldn’t stop dancing after leaving Dancing with the Stars last week, and apologized to random New Yorkers for “dipping and twirling” on the street.

The apology came during Sam’s return as a weatherman for the morning show.

“Robin, I have to take a second to apologize to about half a dozen random New Yorkers for maybe grabbing, diving, and spinning on the street yesterday,” Champion said with a grin.

“But I – I just had to say it, but I have to tell them I’m sorry.”

“I wasn’t one of them!” GMA host Robin Roberts said in response.

Sam later stressed the apology on Twitterand said, “If I happened to ‘catch’ you on the street… I’m sorry.”

While hundreds of Americans tuned in to see Sam survive the four weeks of DWTS, videos of his impromptu street dancing have yet to surface.

Sam was eliminated alongside his pro partner Cheryl Burke last week after performing what appeared to be a painful paso doble.

During the difficult performance, the weatherman was seen grimacing in pain and fighting back tears.

Sam struggled with leg and hip pain during the reality show’s dance competition.

Since leaving DWTS, Sam has been open about the anxiety he has dealt with while on the show.

“The other thing I want to say before I send you on your day is that getting out of my comfort zone and trying something new was totally worth the fear and hard work,” he said in an Instagram video Saturday.

“Sometimes we get stuck where we are and I love my life, but it’s good for us to try something new.”

Although he didn’t bring home the mirror ball trophy, Sam’s peers welcomed him with open arms at the morning show.

ABC Eyewitness News’ Shirleen Allicot shared on her Instagram Monday that Champion had returned to work.
