During an August 1st episode What now? with Brooke Shields On the podcast, Michael, 51, opened up about how his busy career affected raising his children and wished he was “more present” in their childhood.

“I didn’t know what my future would look like. I knew I would work hard. I knew I would do my best if given the chance. But it was still tough,” the former NFL star told the host.

“[I was] When I’m so young and have kids and all the responsibilities, I look back and wish I would do a lot of things better as a parent because I felt like there were so many things I should have sacrificed for one to be a little more present.

However, the daytime presenter also acknowledged that his professional success has brought great benefits as it has enabled him to provide his children with the luxurious lifestyle they had as adults.

“But then there are times when I look back and think I had to sacrifice a lot of things to have the life that I was able to provide and give to them.”

“A lot of people say there’s a balance, but it’s a really difficult balance and I don’t know if there really is one in my case,” Michael admitted.

The TV star has been known over the years from a 15-year career as a defensive end for the New York Giants, a football analyst for Fox Sports Sunday and a four-year stint as a co-host of Live! with Kelly Ripa, 52.

And since then, Michael hasn’t stopped, as he is now the main presenter at GMA, host of the ABC game show Pyramid, and is involved in numerous other business ventures.
