GHISLAINE Maxwell was placed under suicide watch and was forced to wear a special “gown” in solitary confinement prior to sentencing.
The 60-year-old socialite is set to find out this week how long she’s being held behind bars.
Maxwell, who was found guilty of sex trafficking and grooming last year, is scheduled to be sentenced in a Manhattan federal court on Wednesday, and prosecutors have asked that she serve 30 years.
And now, just days before the sentencing, her attorney said in a court filing that his client was placed under suicide watch, the insider reported.
Bobbi Sternheim filed a letter to US District Judge Alison Nathan on Saturday stressing that her client “is not suicidal.”
Sternheim claimed that Maxwell was “abruptly removed from the general population” and placed in solitary confinement “without having conducted a psychological evaluation and without justification.”
She added that Maxwell had to wear a “suicide gown,” a large piece of thick, sturdy fabric that must not be cut, torn, twisted, or otherwise formed into a sling.
Sternheim added she would try to delay sentencing if Maxwell stayed on suicide watch.
“If Ms. Maxwell remains on suicide watch, is barred from reviewing legal materials prior to sentencing, is deprived of sleep, and is not denied sufficient time to meet and consult with an attorney, we will officially close on Monday.” adjournment,” wrote Sternheim.
A lawyer said the three women Maxwell was convicted of for sex trafficking and grooming Jeffrey Epstein were just the “tip of the iceberg”.
Lisa Bloom said there were dozens more victims and urged them to come forward so Maxwell died in prison.
Meanwhile, Maxwell, who is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, is doing everything in her power to reduce her sentence as she claims to be a victim.
Her lawyers have claimed she is a vulnerable woman whose difficult childhood led to her being exploited by billionaire financier Epstein.
They have asked the judge not to penalize her as a “stand-in for Epstein.”
Her lawyers are asking for a maximum of five years, arguing that she faced death threats and was being held in “degrading” conditions.
It comes as victim Annie Farmer spoke earlier this week about how the infamous photo of Prince Andrew with his arm around a then-teen Virginia left her in shock.
In an impact statement ahead of the New York court hearing, Ms Farmer said: “I remember sitting at my desk in a Houston hospital and physically shaking after seeing the photo of Maxwell with Virginia Giuffre and Prince Andrew, because I realized how her scheme had continued.”
The snap shows Andrew at Maxwell’s London townhouse in 2001 with Maxwell grinning behind them.
