GHISLAINE has reportedly asked Maxwell to serve out the majority of her child trafficking sentence in the UK to be close to her family.
The disgraced socialite faces up to 55 years in prison after being convicted on five out of six counts of sex trafficking for the despicable Jeffrey Epstein’s pedophile ring.
She is scheduled to be sentenced June 28 after being incarcerated in the “hellhole” Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Maxwell must serve the first three years in US prison under US law, but can then apply to be returned to the UK.
A source told The Mail on Sunday that she will be making her request “as soon as she is able” so she can be closer to her family.
The 60-year-old convicted sex trafficker reportedly plans to spend the majority of her lengthy sentence in a convenient UK jail.
And she hopes to be on home soil that she will be “treated fairly” despite her constant complaints about the US prison system.
The source explained: “She wants to be in the UK to be closer to her family so she can have family visits.
“Prisons in the UK are vastly superior to those in the US and the British treat prisoners more humanely.
“The American system is a disgrace.
“If she has to serve time in prison, she would rather do it in Britain, where people are treated fairly and with a degree of decency.”
Maxwell was released from solitary confinement for the first time in two years, just ahead of her impending sentencing.
She has been under constant surveillance since her arrest in July 2020 over fears she would kill herself like her pedo buddies before her trial.
But the sex offender now shares a cell with other inmates and will soon be able to have family and friends visit her.
Her family, who have previously complained about how prison staff have treated their sister as a sex offender, have welcomed the move, meaning she is no longer barred from visits.
Maxwell’s brother Ian said his sister was woken up every 15 minutes by guards with a flashlight and had a camera watching them the entire time.
He also alleges she was physically abused by guards and claims her treatment violated the “Nelson Mandela Rules” on prisoner welfare.
Her brother Ian said: “I’ll finally be able to see Ghislaine. Aside from a few seconds of snapped conversation I had with her at the court bar, we didn’t have any meaningful interactions.
“I will be able to do that because she has been released into the general population.
He added: “She’s still in MDC but in the general population.
“There are dangers in it, but she got out of that ‘Shu’ [segregated housing unit] and from this torture she has suffered.
“She kept her head high and I admire her determination.”
He said being in a “dorm-style” cell meant his sister would at least have some company.
Maxwell could face up to 55 years in prison after being found guilty of trafficking young girls to have sex with Epstein.
She helped lure at-risk teenagers to Epstein’s various properties between 1994 and 2004 so they could sexually abuse him.
The former socialite was found guilty of sex trafficking by a New York jury in December and faces a sentence later this month.
Over a dozen of Epstein’s victims say they intend to appear at the sentencing hearing, including Virginia Giuffre.
