FANS slammed Emmanuel Macron as the French president was sheared dry by Kylian Mbappe as he tried to comfort the heroic World Cup final loser.
Viewers assume Mbappe told his nation’s leader to “get away from me” as Macron grabbed and hugged France’s hat-trick star after witnessing Argentina win a penalty shootout.
The president has been accused of trying to score political points after coming onto the field when the French stars were most in shock.
Macron insisted on patting Mbappe, pulling the PSG striker towards him and bobbing his head.
But he got a cool reply as the 23-year-old never looked at the president and seemed to find his behavior intrusive.
Macron also joined Aston Villa’s Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez in trying to comfort Mbappe as he sat dejected on the pitch.
But fans were skeptical of his motives and questioned how reluctant he seemed to leave Mbappe alone.
One said: “Mbappe clearly doesn’t want Macron trying to get political points.”
Another, noting Macron’s grip on the frontman’s arm, posted: “Mbappe wants away from Macron so bad but he won’t let go.”
Similar observations flooded in, such as: “Mbappe doesn’t care about Macron at all.”

Essentially, fans were upset with what they saw when Macron couldn’t read the room.
One viewer wrote: “Not at the moment mate: Mbappe and Deschamps are both completely blank on President Macron.”
Another claimed: “Macron is absolutely desperate for a reaction from Mbappe but in three big efforts the striker doesn’t give him eye contact or a photo opportunity.”
Likewise: “Mbappe does NOT want to be Macron’s sidekick. He should stop touching his face.”
The speedy attacker became only the second man to score a hat-trick in the World Cup final, after England’s 1966 hero Geoff Hurst.
Mbappe’s treble, including two penalties, resulted in France’s 3-3 comeback draw.
He also beat his penalty shoot-out home, but Argentina still won it 4-2.
