Gervonta Davis brand Teofimo Lopez and his father are ‘adults’ as he shares his shock loss to Kambosos

GERVONTA DAVIS has accused lightweight rival Teofimo Lopez and his father of “big head” following his shock loss to George Kambosos last weekend.

Lopez, 24, has won three versions of the 130lb world title with a stunning victory over Vasyl Lomachenko in 2020.

But, in their first world championship defense since that outstanding victory, the Americans acquired by Australian Kambosos, who have caused one of the biggest disturbances in recent years.

And Davis, who will face Isaac Cruz on Saturday for the WBA’s regular light belt, feels Lopez is guilty of skipping the Kambosos.

He reacts to the shock of loss by saying, “I think he [Lopez] just thought the guy was a lazy guy. He went in there with his two hands.

“There were a lot of things he did wrong in that fight. He’s too stubborn for a head. His father is too stubborn.”

The Kambosos were awarded the tournament in a split decision with two of the referees scoring 115-112 and 115-111, while the other gave Lopez a score of 114-113.

And Lopez’s father, Teofimo Sr, bizarrely blames showrunner Eddie Hearn for his son’s failure.

Lopez, signed with Highest Ratings and ESPN, switched to the DAZN streaming service just for the Kambosos match – with the event being hosted by Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing.

But Lopez Sr said after the battle: “I shouldn’t have been fighting DAZN, I should have been at the Top because those are the people who really love us.

“And you learn from your mistakes. So we’re back with Top Rated and two PPV matches next year. Everyone knows what happened, okay. ”

Hearn later responded to those comments by saying: “I feel sorry for him, I know his dad seems to want to blame me for the fact that he lost.

“I guess it comes with territory, but he deserves a lot of credit because he also shows a lot of heart.

“About a week ago it was the best thing he’s ever done coming to DAZN.

“Suddenly he lost a decision that everyone thought he lost and it was my fault and DAZN’s fault.

“You can’t reason with someone like that. He called me a couple of times and he texted me saying he couldn’t believe what I did.

“I said, ‘Listen, we’ve treated you with unbelievable respect’. I love Teofimo, I love his dad, good people. But you have to stay away from illusions.” Gervonta Davis brand Teofimo Lopez and his father are ‘adults’ as he shares his shock loss to Kambosos
