Co-owners Paul Scholes, Roy Keane, Ryan Giggs and Nicky Butt watched as Salford gambled away a 1-0 lead in the first leg.

County now meet Carlisle for a League One spot at Wembley Stadium on May 28.

And observers on the internet gleefully turned Neville’s criticism of the Gunners against him.

That might seem harsh as the Gunners are indeed out of the title race as the former England defender predicted.

And there was no suggestion that he ‘overstated’ Salford’s win in the first leg, in the way he claimed Arsenal had picked up some of his victories.

County won Saturday’s second leg 2-1 after extra time before winning the penalty shoot-out 3-1.

And one fan wrote: “Yes Gary Neville. Salford Bottled it well done Stockport.”

Another wrote: “I’m disappointed in Salford but I’m smiling from ear to ear to hear that Gary Neville might be pissed. Giving in to the pressure, eh, Gary. Couldn’t handle the situation.”

A third said: “I think Neville should be wondering how he made it for Salford.”

City is managed by Nev and his brother Phil, as well as Giggs, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt, David Beckham and Singaporean businessman Peter Lim.

And one fan paid tribute to the Sky Sports pundit’s love for the fourth division club.

He wrote: “Salford lost. Oops Neville is going to be wearing his old Bury top today lol.”
