Gareth Bale shuts down retirement talk, saying it’s ‘very unlikely’ he won’t make a free transfer after Real Madrid exit

GARETH BALE insists he will not resign this summer following his Real Madrid departure.

The Welsh superstar, 32, left Los Blancos this week after a trophy-rich nine-year spell at the Santiago Bernabeu.

In 258 appearances he scored 106 goals and continued to help the club FIVE Champions League title.

But he has hardly played this season, so there was no intention from either the player or the club to negotiate a new contract.

And despite Bale’s prestigious status, no one has approached him with a formal offer yet.

While it’s currently unclear where Bale will end up, he’s adamant he won’t be hanging up his boots.

When asked if he would not join a new club, he replied: “I think that’s very unlikely.”

The winger has been heavily linked with a move to Championship side Cardiff.

And after earning £600,000 a week in Spain, Bale’s next move won’t be motivated by money, raising the possibility of a return to his home country.

MLS side DC United are also interested in signing him, so much so that they are willing to make him their highest-paid player in history.

Bale will look to help his country reach the World Cup for the first time in 64 years on Sunday when Wales take on Ukraine in the play-off final.

If they make it to this year’s competition in Qatar he will want to make sure he plays weekly to prepare and fight for his spot.

He could also reportedly opt for a short-term contract with his next club before retiring after the World Cup.
