Fundraiser organized to help the family who lost their 9-year-old son to cancer

FORT MYERS

After their son died for 5 years battling cancer, a family was left with only expensive medical bills. On Saturday, a fundraiser was held to help alleviate some of the financial stress of the Adyn Pickett family.

Fort Myers Brewing Company organized that fundraiser for the Adyn family. The boy touched so many pieces of life during his time.

Adyn Pickett is the embodiment of helpful words, happy and always cheerful. As his family continues to mourn, the community comes together to support them. They did so using the same principles that Adyn lived by.

Adyn has brought back 9 years of happy memories to his family, although he spent 5 of them bravely battling blood cancer.

James Pickett is Adyn’s father. “We remember just hearing his voice. We remember having to take care of him every day. Pickett said.

James says Adyn has always helped others, especially his family members. He often used music to lift spirits and support his family during his battle.

“His favorite song that he left us with is that everything will be okay. He may not have realized it at the time, but we count on it now for everything,” James said.

During the Pickett family’s darkest hour, the community stood up to make sure that Adyn’s family would be okay.

People flocked to Fort Myers Brewing Company on Saturday. They have raised more than $23,000 to help the Picketts with medical and funeral expenses.

“It’s all done selflessly from people’s hearts to help others, and I think that’s largely what Adyn did,” James said.

Adyn inspired the community with her compassion for others. Even in the face of adversity, he can still win the hearts of others, regardless of whether they know him or not.

Lori Demeter arrives at Fort Myers Brewing Company on Saturday. “You can go through all the worst times in the world, but you can still be a good person,” says Demeter.

Neal Beeler lives in Fort Myers. “He had a positive attitude. And he did the best he could with the time he had,” Beeler said.

The family wants to prolong Adyn’s legacy, even as they continue to mourn. “If we wake up feeling bad about ourselves, we’ll fight like Adyn. James said.
