Fuel price drop of 15p/litre at motorway services is a big boost for Brit drivers

It made the decision after securing permission to install roadside rack displays at the following locations:

– Leigh Delamere travels east and west MSA between junctions 17 and 18 on the M4 near Chippenham Wiltshire.

– Lancaster MSA north and southbound between junctions 32 and 33 on the M6.

Fuel purchased at MSA is typically about 20p/litre more expensive than the UK average.

Moto hopes that it will eventually be able to install new signs – and reduce prices – at all 47 of its MSA projections.

According to the company, the 15p drop will drag the price of the Moto down to within 10p/litre of what it costs at supermarket gas stations.

CEO Ken McMeikan urged other highway operators to lower their pump prices.

“Today marks an important next step in improving fuel price transparency on motorways and helping car drivers money go further,” he said.

“We want to get started with signage installation and discounts at our sites as quickly as possible.

“We have worked tirelessly to show Highways that the new signage is a very affordable measure that will allow us to lower prices for motorists.

“If other highway operators are also looking to install new fuel signs and reduce prices at their locations, motorists will see fuel prices comparable to fuel prices going up and down their highways. local.”

Approval for the new screens following a test at Moto’s Frankley site on the M5 in Birmingham last year, resulting in more motorists stopping to fill up with gas, driving prices down.

Moto is required to demonstrate to Highways that signs provide useful information and do not distract drivers.

RAC fuels spokesman Simon Williams said: “Moto’s bold decision to reduce fuel costs in its service areas will forever transform highway fuel retailing. for the benefit of everyone on the road.

“For years, drivers have been confused as to why highway fuel is so expensive, and as a result, many have actively avoided buying fuel at services, or just loaded it up to the bare minimum. to destination.

“Drivers will now be able to safely hit the highway knowing they will pay a fair price.

“We strongly urge all other motorway service operators to follow Moto’s lead and offer UK drivers a better deal with their pumps.”

RAC figures show average prices in UK markets rose less than 1p/litre in January, reaching 146p for petrol and 150p for diesel on Monday.

The organization said drivers are getting a “better deal” as retailers cut their profits to a “more normal level”.

But it warned that “storm clouds are gathering” due to rising oil prices.
