Four Popular Costco Discontinued Items You’ll Never See Again — Why That’s Actually Good News for Customer Wallets

A BIG warehouse club has removed some items from their stores, but it will help customers save a lot more money.

Costco is known for selling products in bulk at a lower cost, but some of the items being pulled off the shelves can benefit many consumers.

Costco stops selling popular groceries

Costco sells a variety of items ranging from groceries to clothing to household items.

The Warehouse Club is slowly removing some items as the company saw a drop in sales.

Here’s a look at specific product changes.

1. EGGS

Eggs may still be sold at Costco, but eggs from caged hens are no longer sold in-store.

Costco’s linchpin was promoting sustainability and humane farming practices.

The Warehouse Club has transitioned to selling cageless eggs by the end of 2020.

2. CIGARETTES

As people take their health more seriously since the pandemic, cigarette sales have plummeted.

Before the Covid-19 pandemic, Costco began removing cigarettes and other tobacco products from its shelves.

A Costco spokesman said in 2016, “We don’t do disclosures at Costco, it’s a waste of money.

“Tobacco is a very low margin business, tends to have higher levels of theft and in some cases is labor intensive (due to local community regulations).

“Also, we felt we could make better use of the space to market other items.”

3. SEAFOOD

Part of Costco’s current mission is to promote sustainability, so the company will remove any fish deemed endangered.

Costco will also only buy fish and shellfish from wholesalers who use sustainable farming practices.

Fish no longer sold in store include: Atlantic Cod, Atlantic Halibut, Chilean Sea Bass, Shark and Swordfish.

4. HOT DOGS

Aside from Costco’s bulk selling products, the food court items are also very popular.

However, the fan favorite, the Polish hot dog, was removed from the food court.

The difference between a regular hot dog and a Polish hot dog is the spices.

The main spice in Polish hot dog is garlic.

The store wrote in a statement: “To simplify our menu and make room for healthier options, we’ve decided to only offer the all-beef hot dog.

Sales show that the majority of members prefer this.”

The US Sun has reached out to Costco for comment.

OTHER DISCONTINUED ITEMS

Last year, Coca-Cola announced that Honest Tea would no longer be part of its catalogue.

The company announced that Gold Peak would be its flagship “ready-to-drink” tea.

Another popular item that will no longer be found in grocery stores is the popular choco taco.

The fan-favorite dessert was a hit among foodies, but Klondike decided to remove the ice cream product anyway.

Additionally, Trader Joe’s removed its Dill Pickle Hummus because shortly after its launch, the retailer decided it wasn’t worth the investment.
