Fort Myers Tip-Off Championship Game In Progress

A competition is going on Wednesday night in Fort Myers. The Florida Gators are playing against the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Fort Myers Tip-Off Championship Game.

These teams are no strangers to playing against each other for titles. They did so for the NCAA National Title in 2007.

Not only is this an important night for the players and coaches, but the fans are also excited. The Gators and Buckeyes were playing with a sold-out crowd. They are loud and passionate.

There is a sea of ​​orange and blue and magenta and gray. Jeffrey Richards from Frot Myers. “I expect a win in Florida,” Richards said.

Wesley Woods from North Port. “Ohio State is getting into dubbing,” Woods said.

The stands were packed at Suncoast Credit Union Arena. “It was a .. kind of bitter, hateful adversary,” said Richards.

Joe Caito is from Largo. “Florida is a competitor of ours,” Caito said.

Clint Woods is also from North Port. “You couldn’t ask for a better game to have a home team against my favorite team,” Clint said.

Richards says playing for the title makes his experience more meaningful. “It makes a little more sense when you’re playing for a championship with Ohio State,” he said.

These two teams met in the Fort Myers Tip-Off Championship Game Wednesday night. This is something the Gators and Buckeyes are familiar with, dating back to 2007.

“I attended both the national championship matches in football and basketball. When we played in Florida and lost both games to Florida,” Caito said.

Clint Woods says it’s been a year to forget. “I will never forget that year,” Clint said.

Gator fans have held both of those wins over Buckeye fans for years. And Gator fans hoping Wednesday can add to that sequence.

Bob Zientek lives in Cape Coral. “Breaking rights to me are as important as who wins the game or not,” Zientek said.

Al Ducharme is from Leesburg. “I just loved teasing my friend because he thought Gator couldn’t compete with Ohio State, and I think we showed him a thing or two,” Ducharme said.
