Following the 2020 election, former Trump attorney and adviser Sidney Powell is said to have tried to enlist a Defense Department official to help retrieve then-CIA Director Gina Haspel from what Powell believes to be a secret election-related mission in Germany, ABC News reports, according to journalist Jonathan Karl’s new book, Betrayal: Inside the Trump Show Last Act. Bogus quest, has become one of the “most far-fetched statement about the election. “
According to Karl, Powell called the senior intelligence official, Ezra Cohen, after the election, promoting a “false conspiracy theory that was of interest to QAnon followers.”
“Gina Haspel was wounded and imprisoned in Germany,” Powell told Cohen, according to Karl. “You need to launch a special operations quest to get her.”
Trump attorneys believe Haspel was injured while completing a covert CIA operation to capture and destroy evidence of vote tampering on an election-related computer server, Karl reported. She believes the CIA was complicit. None of that is true.
But Powell believed it, and wanted the Department of Defense to immediately “send a special operations team to Germany,” locate the server and “force Haspel to confess,” Karl wrote.
For his part, Cohen, “Powell thought it was amnesia,” and soon reported the string callback, according to Karl.
A CIA spokesman later debunked any plots, possibly tell the news outlet, “I am pleased to inform you that Director Haspel is alive and well and in office.”
