Former MLB player Julio Lugo dies aged 45

TAMPA (WFLA) – Former MLB track and field athlete Julio Lugo has passed away from an alleged heart attack ESPN Deportes’ Enrique Rojas.

Lugo, 45, is expected to turn 46 on Tuesday.

Lugo spent 12 seasons (2000-2011) in Major League Baseball playing for the Astros for parts of four seasons, then the Rays for parts of four seasons. He then spent three seasons with the Red Sox and had a year or less with the Dodgers, Braves, Orioles and Cardinals.

In his 12 years, Lugo hit the 0.269 mark with 1,279 hits, 238 doubles, 34 triples, 80 home runs, 475 RBIs, 688 runs, 198 and stolen bases. He was a missing player for the Red Sox in 2007 when they won the World Series. | Former MLB player Julio Lugo dies aged 45
