Former Lincoln Park Zoo director Lester Fisher dies aged 100

CHICAGO – Dr. Lester Fisher, former director of the Lincoln Park Zoo, has died at the age of 100.

Fisher, the zoo’s director from 1962 to 1992, died Wednesday. He took great pride in transforming the zoo from a pile of “sticked cement slabs” just for the display of animals, to the natural habitat in which the animals now live.

In addition to his duties as zookeeper, Fisher has become a household name through numerous appearances on WGN, notably on “Ray Rayner and His Friends” with the “Ark in the Park” segment in the series. throughout the 1970s and “The Bozo Show” during the 1980s.
