Former Arsenal and Chelsea star Nicolas Anelka ‘shamed’ by nightmare at Juventus after 2013 transfer – The US Sun

NICOLAS ANELKA has played for some of the biggest clubs in the world but admits he was wrong about Juventus.

After a career that has spanned France, England, Turkey, China and India, the former striker has described his time in Italy as the worst of his career.

On a six-month loan from Shanghai Shenhua in January 2013, Anelka only played three times and failed to score as the Bianconeri won the league.

Speaking to TuttoJuve in 2019, the Frenchman, now 43, said: “I had decided to accept Juve because they are a great club with a good history and also because they were leading Serie A.

“Unfortunately, that will remain my worst experience [in football] as I only played 45 minutes and never wore the shirt in front of the fans at Juventus Stadium.

“Honestly, when someone asks me about Juventus, I immediately try to change the subject… I’m ashamed of this transfer!

“I’ve played and scored for every team I’ve signed for, except Juve.

“Without respecting this great team, you can’t say I was their player because that’s how the experience went.”

The striker spent the first few months on the Juve bench, all three appearances coming off the bench before an injury knocked him out of part of the run-in.

COACH NIC

Few footballers can boast the trophy cabinet of Anelka, who included the Scudetto on his resume despite the quiet Juventus spell.

He also won league titles with Arsenal, Fenerbahce and Chelsea, a Champions League with Real Madrid and Euro 2000 with France.

Anelka, who is now retired, is keen to pursue a career in coaching after dabbling in the academy at Ligue 1 club Lille.

The Parisian remarked back in 2020: “I just finished my job at Lille, I was the attacking coach.

“It was a wonderful experience.

“This year I passed my qualification and can finally become a coach.”

But last year he said the only club he would ever manage was PSG.
