Food stamps update as $835 SNAP payments for a family of four are being sent out

Funds are provided through an electronic benefit transfer (EBT) card, which is used as a debit card to purchase food, such as groceries, at authorized retail food stores.

But SNAP recipients in New York can start seeing more money in their accounts starting Saturday.

The increase comes after Governor Kathy Hochul announced that New YorkThe Food Assistance Program will receive an additional $230 million in funding.

“As we continue to endure the hardships of the pandemic, too many New Yorkers are struggling to make ends meet,” Hochul said.

“These additional food benefits will play an important role in eliminating food insecurity statewide. As cold weather puts pressure on family budgets, these additional SNAP funds will provide much-needed relief.”

Under the new funding, all New Yorkers who sign up for SNAP will receive the maximum allowable benefits in January.

Families can get the maximum benefit, which is $835 for a family of four.

Those who have received the maximum amount can receive an allowance close to $100.

WHO CAN REGISTER FOOD STAMPS?

You must register SNAP in status where you currently live.

Each state has a different application form and process.

Generally, SNAP is limited to people with gross incomes up to 130% of the federal poverty line.

This currently starts at $12,880 for a one-person household and goes up depending on family size.

For example, the poverty threshold for a household of four is $26,500.
