Five fights for Gennady Golovkin, 40, as boxing legend refuses to retire after Canelo Alvarez trilogy defeat

GENNADY GOLOVKIN is ready to return to middleweight as he refused to retire after losing to Canelo Alvarez.

The Kazakh icon jumped to super middleweight to complete his trilogy with Canelo, with whom he tied in 2017 but lost a year later.

But again, GGG suffered a loss to the Mexican superstar, meaning he will return to middleweight.

Golovkin, 40, said: “Remember guys, I still have three belts at 160. I’ll be back guys. I’m still champion boys.”

So here, SunSport reveals what could be next for one of boxing’s most feared punchers.

Jermal Charlo

The 32-year-old American is one of the biggest stars in the middleweight division, is undefeated in 32 fights and is the current WBC champion.

Golovkin has also ended the latest fight over his DAZN deal, meaning he is free to accept an offer from Charlo’s PBC stable.

It would offer GGG an opportunity to return in a US pay-per-view megafight.

Chris Eubank Jr

Eubank, 33, has been chasing a falling out with Golovkin since 2016, when talks between them broke down.

He returns on Oct. 8 against Conor Benn, 25, in a 157lb catchweight bout, but the middleweight division is so confident he’s already fielded GGG.

Eubank tweeted: “GGG you had a great run. Come back to middleweight and let’s fight for whatever belts you have left in December, or just pass them on and I’ll take care of them for the next few years while you enjoy your retirement… you made it champion. ”

Yanibek Alimkhanuly

Golovkin’s compatriot was elevated to WBO champion while Demetrius Andrade gained weight.

It would provide GGG with a huge homecoming fight with three of the four belts on the line.

Golovkin called recently to fight at home in Kazakhstan and Alimkhanuly, 29, could be his perfect dance partner.

Billy Joe Saunders

Saunders, 33, has yet to return since suffering defeat in May 2021, suffering FOUR fractures in the loss to Canelo.

And the skilled southpaw has insisted he will only come back for the biggest fights possible.

Saunders has long wanted to face GGG while he was middleweight champion, and the stars may finally align to fight now.

Jaime Munguia

Billed as Mexico’s next boxing hope, 25-year-old Munguia is climbing the ladder as a 40-0 undefeated former light middleweight champion.

So while Golovkin’s rivalry with Canelo may be settled, he could be persuaded into another Mexican showdown with Munguia.

However, it wouldn’t have a title on the line, which may not appeal to GGG.
