First case of Omicron variant detected in Miami-Dade county – CBS Miami

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The first case of the Omicron coronavirus variant has been detected in Miami-Dade County.
On Friday afternoon, CBS4 News learned that CardioPath, a private lab in Doral, had sequenced the first Omicron variant.
They said the sample was sequenced on Thursday and analyzed on Friday.
The lab will not disclose where the sample came from.

Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava’s office has been notified.
So far, there has been no comment from the Florida Department of Health or the Centers for Disease Control.
The COVID-19 variant Omicron officially arrived in Florida on December 7 when the first case was discovered at James A. Haley Veterans Hospital in Tampa.
