Fire destroys home in Penn Hills; Man Comes Out Safely With His Dog – CBS Pittsburgh

PENN HILLS (KDKA) — Fire destroyed a home in Penn Hills overnight.
The Penn Hills Fire Chief said everyone was safe to leave the home, but the home was likely a total loss.
The boss said the house was up in flames when emergency services arrived at the scene around 12:30 a.m

PENN HILLS HOUSE FIRE: As the sun comes up you can see the extent of the damage to this house on 6th Street.
The Penn Hills Fire Chief says the fire started at the back of the home and ripped through the home.
Luckily everyone escaped safely.

He said the fire started at the back and ripped through the home, adding that one tenant did not completely put out his cigarette after smoking on the back porch.
Around midnight, this tenant got up to use the restroom when he saw smoke and the fire on the back porch. As he ran out of the house, he left the front door open, fueling the flames even more.
The fire was still burning, with plumes of smoke pouring out of the roof of the home around 2 a.m
The chief said firefighters had no problem putting out the fire.

The man and his dog got out safely.
The house next door was also damaged, with the side wall of the house being melted.
The Penn Hills Fire Department is investigating the cause.
