A detailed formula with points based on the importance of games is used to calculate a team’s position.

As England have climbed the charts in recent years, they hope to earn their place and perform on the biggest stage of them all.

Who is the best team in the world?

Five-time world champions Brazil are currently the number one country in the world with 1841 points.

They rose to the top in March of this year after a 15-game unbeaten streak.

In second place is Belgium, who previously held the top spot for over three years but are still waiting for success at a major tournament.

Next on the list is South American giants Argentina, who beat Brazil to win the Copa America earlier this year.

Fourth place goes to France, winners of the last tournament, who will be hoping to repeat 2018.

In fifth place is Euro 2022 finalist England, who dropped out of the top 3 after their performances in the Nations League.
