EA Sports is preparing to release its new football game series after parting ways with FIFA.
The FIFA 23 developer had a very public falling out with the football organization, apparently over a licensing dispute.
FIFA reportedly wanted $1bn (£800m) for the use of their name and branding on the cover.
Instead, the gaming company decided to go its own way and announced that the FIFA series would be renamed EA Sports FC.
Some details have been announced about EA Sports FC, such as partnerships and logos.
There are also many details that we can reasonably guess, such as that it will be released towards the end of September and will feature most, if not all, of the same teams and players that we have in the FIFA games.
Smaller details, such as who will be featured on the cover, are yet to be announced.
Paris-Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappé has graced the cover for the past three years.
However, fans believe he will step down for the upcoming cover and make way for another superstar.
FIFA fans expect Manchester City’s Erling Haaland to be this year’s cover star, likely due to his record-breaking year.
In May, Haaland broke the record for most goals scored in a season in the Premier League at 36.
He also became the 12th man to be named FIFA 23’s Team of the Year.
In this case, Haaland would grace the cover of the Standard Edition, while the Ultimate Edition will likely feature more than one player.
Last year, both Kylian Mbappé and Chelsea’s Sam Kerr were on the cover, leading people to believe there will be female players on the cover again.
The Standard Edition cover star will likely still appear on the Ultimate Edition cover, but will be pictured alongside one or more partners.
