The late move was agreed by a Fifa committee on Thursday evening.

President Gianni Infantino and other leaders of the six continental governing bodies unanimously voted in favor of the surprising change.

Qatar will now make their World Cup debut against Ecuador on November 20 following an opening ceremony at the 60,000 capacity Al Bayt Stadium.

The competition was due to start on Monday November 21 with Senegal versus Holland.

The second game was England versus Iran.

And hosts Qatar were due to play their third game later in the day.

But the World Cup hosts have been playing the opening game since 2006 and will now do so again in 2022.

At the winter tournament, the Premier League makes from 12./13. There will be a break between November and Boxing Day.
