A FEMALE teacher accused of having sex with a student was reduced to a charge after she married him.
Baylee A. Turner, 26, a former Missouri teacher, looks set to avoid a four-year prison sentence after marrying a student she allegedly had sex with.
Prosecutors in Missouri decided to drop charges against a former Sarcoxie High School English teacher saying the privileges of marriage mean they cannot force victims to testify.
Turner – a self-described “follower of Jesus” – was charged with having sex with a minor in February 2019 following an explosive investigation by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department, follow Joplin’s Ball.
According to court documents, she allegedly had intercourse with the student at the private home she shared with her husband in Sarcoxie in January 2019, and resigned in disgrace shortly thereafter.
Turner – who faces four years in prison if convicted – taught English at Sarcoxie Middle School for two years before being promoted to teach high school students in 2019.
Assistant prosecutor Nate Dally told the Globe that because the former student now has conjugal privileges, he can no longer be forced to testify against Turner, severely undermining the state’s case in court. .
Dally said Turner resubmitted his state teaching license, which prosecutors say was their primary target.
It is not clear when the two married or who the student is.
She claims to be a devout Catholic who got married in 2016 and is still with her husband in his sinful affair.
She even runs her own blog called “Motivated by Faith” in which she writes about her husband, her Catholic faith, and a book she is writing.
In one of her posts, Turner said: “Let’s stop shaming women for following traditional ways of life.
“Stop assuming that all women want the same things, and start respecting the fact that independent women come in all shapes, sizes, beliefs, and lifestyles.”
The case repeats the relationship between Washington state teachers Mary Kay Letourneau was convicted of rape sixth grader Vili Fualaau in 1997.
Letourneau had sex with Fualaau in 1996 before marrying him and having children together.
The couple divorced in 2019 and Letourneau died of colon cancer in 2019 58 years old.
At the time, she was 34 years old and married with 4 children when their relationship began.
Letourneau’s husband, Steve, discovered the couple’s relationship after he found love letters between his wife and the young girl.
